Hello, I'm Pamela Thompson, Atlanta based Decorative Artist. Thank you for taking the time to check out my work and site. This is a little about me.
I'm a Georgia native and self taught artist specializing in faux and decorative painting, murals and large scale modern abstract art. I have always been artistic, starting in childhood drawing animals. I started painting around age 10 with my Dad who was a residential house painter that started me on my creative journey as an artist. I all started working with my Dad in the summers and weekends learning the foundation of color, painting and furniture refinishing. Don't worry it wasn't child labor. It was because I would cry to "help" Dad. It was all fun for me and has never stopped being fun. I didn't realize I was learning while working with my Dad in model homes with Interior Designers. I was just having fun listening to them talk about the colors and how everything was going to work together. I've always loved and often been amazed how an empty space is transformed into a beautiful room with just the right color or custom wall finish.
Decorative painting became a constant hobby and passion for me. I started being asked to do work for others after friends and a contractor saw some of my home and work. Design and faux finishing became a side job for more than 15 yrs.
II love the creative challenge and each home and client presents and knowing at the end of a project that we - the client and I together- nailed it. I love the whole process of designing and creating that perfectly customized decorative or faux finish for each unique space. Or highlighting beautiful detail that that previously gone unnoticed and watch a space go from pretty or very nice to WOW...
My favorite part of it all is walking into a space and teasing out what the client wants even when they don't know how to put it into words. Listening to the client as well as letting the space and the client's prized and loved pieces guide the creative process. I love the new, old, modern and traditional. I love helping the client narrow down the endless combinations and options down to the perfect custom finish, and knowing how much you will love it for years! At the end of 2007 I left my corporate job to pursue my passion full time and started Pamela's Painting ATL. I was finally able to fully dedicate and concentrate on developing my faux finishing craft, I finally had time to study and practice fine faux finishes, custom decorative finishes, gilding, stenciling, Venetian plaster, old world finishes, modern and traditional. Since that time I've expanded my skill set to include murals, marbles, faux bois, cabinetry, canvas and decorative and stained concrete.
Faux Finishes, Murals & Fine Art
I have always been a creative and started out drawing as a kid. At 15 I started floral design and studying design. In 1992 I discovered faux finish painting and knew I had found my calling. It was such a natural marriage of the painting I learned and loved and the color and design that I also loved. With an eye for design and a solid painting foundation already in place, decorative and faux painting became a passion and it quickly became clear I had a "knack" for both faux finishing and how to incorporate the perfect finish into any interior.
